Reading books can be good for children for lots of reasons. It helps them to improve their communication skills, vocabulary and spelling. It helps improve their imagination. Reading to children can also have benefits for the child. Reading aloud to children at bedtime is a long time tradition and has many benefits not only can it helps their reading skills but also help them to relax, and maybe helping them sleep better.

There are of course hundreds and thousands of children's books for all ages. Here are just a few of some of our favorites.

A book I remember from my own childhood which is still extremely popular and a favorite with my own children is

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

I'm sure most people are familiar with this book, not only is it an entertaining story but it has beautiful illustrations and engaging graphics. Children love how those pages actually have a hole in to represent the holes nibbled by the caterpillar.

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

This is a story of a clever mouse that comes across a series of animals who would like to eat him, but he tells these predators a string of stories about a scary beast called the Gruffalo to save himself from being eaten. Only he soon find out the beast is not imaginary.

This book contains great illustrations and really captures the children's attention with rhymes and scary descriptions. Its also very witty. This book is an award winner it won an award for being the best book to be read aloud and it's easy to see why.
