If you have written a book you will probably want to get it published. There are 2 main ways to get your book published. One way is self publishing and the other is to sell it to a publisher.

Self Publishing

Using modern technology it has become easier to self publish a book. You can write, edit, and add pictures and graphics to your book quite easily so self publishing is now much more accessible and affordable for authors. The author takes on the responsibility of production of the book, marketing the book, storing the book, sales and distribution of the book completely by themselves. The author does then own the full rights to the books and gets the full proceeds from all sales.

Selling to a Publisher

First you need to find a literacy agent to take on you and your book. Publishers use literacy agents to select books which have selling potential. Once you have found an agent who believes in you and your book they will contact several publishers on your behalf. Getting an offer from a publisher could take a few week or even a few years and some books may never be taken on by a publisher. Normally if you sign a deal with a publisher you get an advance on the royalties. Usually this is royalties of the book the publisher expects from the first 2 years sales. Royalties can vary from publisher to publisher.
